It’s Annual Meeting Time: 2009 Elections

by Terry Williams KD5KJU

I hope everybody has had very happy and safe Thanksgiving. As chairman of the Nominating Committee I am happy to report that this was an easy year to get a slate of officers. Everybody that was currently holding office agreed to stay for the next year. So, your slate of officer nominees for 2009 will be as follows:

·        President.................... Rodney Baden, K5YKC

·         Vice President...... Terry Williams, KD5KJU

·         Teasurer................ Norris Martin, KB5SLI

·         Secretary.............. Jeremy Neal, KE5PRG

·         Director (2011).... Ed Middlebrook, KC5NT

I would also like to say a big thank you to Mark AC5DE and Jim KA5QKL for serving on the Nominating Committee with me. It's one of those jobs that someone must step up to do, and they did a great job of getting things together. Kudos to them.

Thanks to all,

Terry KD5KJU

President’s Corner

by Rodney Baden, K5YKC

Rodney, K5YKC

Well, 2008 has been a momentous year. We all have accomplished a lot for our community and HOTARC. We have worked, with everybody pulling together,  and that is important. Adding new members, having radio classes, helping each other learn, and plain good old fun has been the norm his year. I would like to thank everyone for their stick-to-it attitude and getting the “JOB” done.

The Annual Meeting this month is very important because we will elect the officers that will carry on the Club’s work in 2009. We’ll also discuss dues for 2009—technically, it’s due January 1. The Directors will make a recommendation setting the amount for 2009. We hope to see all of you that can attend. Please come and join us. We need you.

Finally, we are going to have our annual Christmas Luncheon at the Summer Palace on Valley Mills Drive. Please check the website for time and address. There will be door prizes, lots of good food, and fellowship. Members and their families are very welcome. Please come and join us.

Finally, let me wish a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you.

Rodney Baden, K5YKC
HOTARC President

Request for ARES Net Control
Station Volunteers—HELP!

by Ed Hynan, KC5KNI
McLennan County Emergency Coordinator

With so many new Club members, it is time to get some new folks joining in then fun of being a Net Control (NC) for the weekly training net. So far, I got responses from Mark AC5DE and Jim KA5QKL. Thanks guys! I will add you to the schedule. How about the rest of you? The only response I got from last year’s NCs was from Mike N5MVL. What about the rest of the current NCs? Can I count on you again for another year? Please let me know!

The ARES/Bakers Dozen Training Net is held each Monday night at 8 PM on the 145.15 Repeater. If you would like the opportunity to serve as a weekly Net Control please let me know via e-mail: KC5KNI@arrl.net. You can let me know if there are any Mondays that would not be convenient (i.e., 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and/or 5th).

For those who would like to volunteer, I will add you to the 2009 schedule and provide you with a copy of the preamble, log sheet, and the ARES/Bakers Dozen Training Net Operating Instruction. If you want to participate, please let me know by 10 December 2008. I request that you respond via e-mail since I can not be at the Annual Meeting—a little something called ROTC Parents Night at school! And again, I also need to hear from the 2008 Net Control operators, to let me know if they would like to continue to serve. This is what amateur radio is all about: preparation for emergency service.

If we have additional volunteers, each NC would be scheduled to call the net no more than 6 times a year. Please let me hear from you.

HOTARC Christmas Luncheon

Mark your calendars and make plans to attend the annual HOTARC Christmas Luncheon. This year we have arranged to meet together at noon on Saturday December 13 at the Summer Palace in Waco, at the corner of Valley Mills Drive and Bosque Blvd.

This is a simple Dutch treat* gathering for some pleasant fellowship, and a few simple door prizes to make it fun. The Summer Palace has a wide assortment of hot, tasty food served buffet-style, both Oriental and American entrées, salads, and desserts, so there’s no reason to go away hungry. Make plans now to attend—you and all your “significant others!”

*Everybody pays for their own meal.
