From the President |

It has been a pleasure to serve as HOTARC President for the last two years. I have gotten to work with a variety of people on the projects the Club has done during this time. The collective knowledge and skills of HOTARC members is outstanding. I look forward to seeing what next year brings.
This month’s Annual Meeting is “HOTARC Election Day.”
The Nomination Committee will present their recommendations for Officers and Directors.
If you would like to serve the Club, please feel free to volunteer your time in
any capacity you can.
Hint: The positions of Officers and Directors are not the only way you
can serve the club.
Please remember that December 1 at noon is the HOTARC Christmas Luncheon at Golden Coral.

Request for ARES Net Control Station Volunteers |
by
Ed Hynan, KC5KNI
|
I have just two volunteers to serve as Net Controls for 2019. L Ideally, every member of ARES should be able to act as a Net Control station in an emergency.
The ARES/Bakers Dozen Training Net is held each Monday night at 8 PM on the 145.15 W5ZDN repeater. Net Control volunteers typically operate from their home QTH. I would like to provide this excellent training opportunity to all current members of McLennan County ARES.
Current volunteers are KC5KNI and AC5JC. These individuals have done an excellent job running the Nets very smoothly this year, and have stepped up to the plate again for 2019. Now I need to hear from the rest of the 2018 Net Controls to determine if they want to participate again for 2019.
For all the other local ARES members, if you would like the opportunity to serve as a weekly Net Control please let me know via e-mail: KC5KNI@arrl.net. You can also let me know if there are any particular Mondays that would not be convenient for you (e.g., 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and/or 5th). We’ll figure out how to work with your schedule! The deadline for contacting me will be Dec 10, 2016.
For those who would like to volunteer, I will add you to the 2019 Net Control Schedule, provide you with a copy of the preamble, log sheet, and a letter of Instruction. Again: if you want to participate, please let me know by 10 December 2018. This is really what amateur radio is all about—preparation for emergency service.
This is the last chance to get on the schedule for 2019, since I need to finalize the 2019 schedule and get it published by December 15, 2018. Contact me!
HOTARC and Baylor Merit Badge Cooperative |

On October 27 and November 10, several members of HOTARC helped to teach Radio Merit Badge to young Scouts at the Baylor Merit Badge Cooperative. Clint Anderson AE5CA served as the head instructor with classroom helpers Dan Hapenney AG5HF and Matthew Flippin KG5YQT. Invaluable help was provided by Bill Feltenberger KD5UEW by talking with the Scouts over VHF/UHF radio from his QTH.
Previously known as the Baylor Merit Badge College, this year marked the return of the BMBC since it was last done in 2015. While the BMBC was significantly smaller than past years, it was great to see it rise back to life. Approximately 20 Scouts took part in the class with a significant number of them completing the Merit Badge.
Serving HOTARC as an Officer and Director |
by
Clint Anderson, AE5CA
|
In 2009, I was elected to be a Director for the three-year term of 2010-12. Since then, I have served as a Director for a year, Vice President for 2 years, President for 2 years, and Past President for four years. It honestly has been a pleasure to serve in HOTARC. As 2019 comes around, I decided that it was time for me to “pass the baton” to others in the Club and to step back into the role of “Member.”
I have gained a lot from my experience as an Officer, and I appreciate all the help and support from the Members and other Officers and Directors that I have received over the years. I am really excited to see the new leadership stepping up for the Club in 2018, and welcome and encourage them in their new roles! I hope you’ll attend the Annual Meeting this week and show YOUR support, too! And be on the lookout for ways that YOU can participate and even take the reins to lead in upcoming Club activities when asked!
