HOTARC/BARC Amateur Radio Testing

HOTARC and BARC (Baylor ARC) are pleased to offer amateur radio testing to the general public and fellow amateurs. Our Volunteer Examiners will deliver an ARRL test session on September 20 at 10:00 AM at Baylor University's Rogers Engineering Bldg (see #70 on this Baylor map), Room 109. Meet us in the first-floor lobby on the east side of the building.

By passing a multiple-choice exam at this session you can earn (or upgrade) your amateur radio license!

Please bring with you to the test session:

 2) Two photo IDs.

 1) Testing fee of $14 (cash only);
 2) A photo ID;
 3) Current FCC license and photocopy of it; and
 4) Photocopy of any relevant CSCE* (from recent test session).

For further questions, contact: Linda Hynan, AC5QQ at 254-666-4873 or .

*CSCE is an official proof of previously passed FCC exam(s), valid up to 1 year. For example, suppose you passed your Technician exam, but have not yet received your FCC license in the mail. If you come to take a General exam, we'll need a photocopy of the CSCE you received when you passed the Technician exam. If you already have your new FCC license, then we don't need the CSCE—just a photocopy of your new license.

HOTARC Club Meeting

HOTARC's August Club Meeting will be held on September 25, 2008, at 7:00 PM, in the Kultgen Automotive Center of the TSTC Waco Campus.

Meetings generally consist of a short business meeting followed by an interesting program. Visiting hams, family members, and prospective hams are welcomed. See the current HOTLINE (issued the weekend preceding the meeting) for more details.

Waco Wild West Century Bike Ride

HOTARC provides radio communications in support of this annual event that involves several hundred participants and volunteers. This year's WWWC is scheduled for September 27, 2008 at Indian Springs Park in downtown Waco, starting at 8:00 am. This day-long event accommodates riders of many abilities with courses of varied lengths: 10 miles, 25 miles, 50 miles, 65 miles, and 100 miles—all of which are supported by rest stops, SAG vehicles, and, of course, radio communications.

We will need many volunteers for this event for stations at the many rest stops around the course. Although this event is quite "planned," it is an excellent training opportunity for a real disaster that would require radio communications from remote locations—all reporting back to a Net Control. This is a chance to use the skills you've learned on the weekly ARES Net.

Please contact John AC5CV today to volunteer your support for this event! If you have a position preference or time limitations (for example, "afternoon only"), include that in your email.

Here is the official 2008 map from WWWC, and the Google map is still 2007 version (sorry!). Do you see all those rest stops spread out all over the county? We need you!!
