Race for the Cure

HOTARC provided radio communications in support of this annual fundraiser and public-awareness event that involves several thousand participants and volunteers from the central Texas area. This year's
Race for the Cure began in downtown Waco on
September 19, 2015

with the long-distance runners lining up at 8:00 am, and the short-distance runners/walkers following a few minutes later. The run started around
3rd and Washington. The courses (
5k,
10k, and—new this year—
15k) headed up Martin-Luther King Blvd into Cameron Park and back. This is a relatively simple walk/run event for us, but
very popular and well-attended.
For this event, we used
147.55 simplex around the Start/Finish line area, and the Baylor Club's (
BARC)
147.16 MHz (tone 123) repeater for more distant stations on the course.
