Meeting Notice |
I hate to make you guys jealous, but I GET TO GO TO DAYTON AGAIN!!!
Larry Bush W5NCD is once again driving up to Dayton in a motor home (a little
smaller than last year’s, but still very
nice), and I guess since I
survived the trip last year, he was willing to give me a seat again this year.
So, I’m just a little J sorry that I will have to miss the May
meeting of WATS, and that you guys will be force to find another meeting place
for this month. But N5XAK has graciously offered to host you guys at his home.
Maybe we’ll find out how good HE is at cooking hamburgers!! <just
kidding!! Y’all better eat before
you come to the meeting!>
This photo of the Hamvention arena in Dayton
didn’t mean too much to me last year about this time. But now I very much
appreciate the magnitude of this aerial shot. (If you look closely beside the
blue tarp in the fourth row, I think I was waving at the helicopter when they
took this shot last year. ;-) They have about 2500 outside vendor/seller spaces,
and about 550 indoor spaces, too. Folks, that is a lot of ham equipment
for sale! What a hoot! For more info, visit their web site: http://www.hamvention.org
So, remember Larry W5NCD, David KC5UOZ, and I in your prayers (for safe
travel both ways, and to come back with at least a little money left in our
pockets). I’m sure J we’ll be thinking of you guys back in Waco,
too! If you have any requests for something to watch for while we’re browsing
the aisles, give me a call with the details!
Fellow WATS Members:
Last month's meeting at the home of Dave Boehner, K5HOT was a most
enjoyable outing. Due to the absence of our Secretary-Treasurer, this month's
meeting will be mild by comparison. As AC5CV will be out of town, an alternate
meeting place to the usual CORD office will be required, and I am offering my
home for the May meetings. As usual, Board at 7:00 pm and Members at 7:30 pm. John
has included a map to help you find the place. The address is 3237 Brannon Drive,
and the number is on the mail box post. No special program has been prepared,
but I will be showing off my shack. I will look forward to seeing you there on
May 16th.
Your
Prez,
John N5XAK
(Editor’s Note: John’s street, Brannon Drive,
is just one block north of the traffic light at the Hillcrest-Lake Shore intersection.
See the map for a bigger perspective.)

· John Gafford, N5XAK (President)
· John Chamberlain, AC5CV (Secretary/Treasurer)
· Horace Bushnell, W5TAH

KD5IQ moved to accept the Financial Report as published in the April Happenings, seconded by W5TAH, and approved unanimously.
· N5XAK reported on the effort to identify the members’ preferences for how to receive the Happenings (electronically or by U.S. Mail). Three or four favored electronic distribution; none favored paper; hence, the issue is considered closed (i.e., Happenings will continue being distributed electronically).
· We have nothing to report regarding a fix to the Skycam camera’s remote interface. Waiting on help from Larry Bush, W5NCD.
· AC5CV reported on plans for the upcoming Race for the Cure on April 27. Due to the passing of Jim Lovett AC5HV, AC5CV volunteered to coordinate the event for HOTARC and WATS. WATS members will send ATV pictures back to the HOTARC trailer. David Bush, KC5UOZ will serve as ATV Net Control, with remote transmitters provided by AC5CV, N5XAK, and Justin Martin KC5KQL. We’ll use 144.34 MHz for a control frequency, with vertical polarization of our ATV signals on 439.25 MHz.
N5XAK heard a motion by AC5CV to adjourn the meeting at 7:08 pm.
