Meeting Notice NOTE: Special Time & Place |
It’s that wonderful time of year again. When we get to officially
dedicate a whole 24 hours to ham radio! I say “get to” because, as you all
know, we have to get “permission” from our better halves to really enjoy ham
radio more than a few minutes a week, right? J And I know that I am very blessed with a
wife who knows how important it is to have my fun once a year by
“staying out all night with the boys and my toys.”
AC5CV and W5NCD operating SSTV |
In any case, the Field Day fun begins well before nightfall for us
ATVers. In fact, there really isn’t much we can do with ATV after dark. So, we
get our ATV thrills early in the day by doing stuff like trying to hoist an ATV
transmitter up in the air with balloons, kites, and whatever we can find that’s
more than 6 feet above ground. There’s been some talk of radio-controlled cars
this year. And several have mentioned SSTV, too. That should encourage W5NCD
and KC5UOZ a little!
Whatever we do with ATV and SSTV, we are bound to contribute some good
bonus points to the HOTARC total again. That’s a good thing, for it helps
maintain our good relationship with our “buds” in HOTARC.

But more than that, we also get to stir up some enthusiasm for ATV and
SSTV. HOTARC is making a great effort to bring out some media this year (in
light of 9-11), so we want to be ready to put on our best show, too. In
addition to impressing the media folks, we have several new HOTARC members who
just might get stirred up by the visual aspect of ham radio.
So, we hope to see you at our WATS meeting this month to help us plan
for all the excitement, as well as enjoy a nice meal together for a change. And
be sure to plan to show up June 22 for Field Day at Hewitt Park (see map). Even
if you only come out a take a few digital pictures of the action (Please send
them to me!), we’ll be glad to see you (and your significant other)!

Fellow WATS Members:
This is the month of Annual Amateur Radio Field Day. Mark your
calendars, June 22 and 23. Let's see what we can put together for the event.
Due to an absence of our Secretary-Treasurer on our usual meeting date, this
month's meeting will be held Saturday, June 15th at The Piccadilly Cafeteria on
Richland Mall at 12:00 noon. Come early and get your meal before the meeting
starts.
Field Day Bonus points will be given for demonstrations of fast scan
and slow scan television and I plan to have both fast and slow scan mobile
stations available. Our sister group, HOTARC, has some impressive plans in the
works, and we need to support them.
See you Saturday, June 15th, at the Piccadilly, at 12:00
noon.
Your
Prez,
John N5XAK
