Field Day 2013

The city of Hewitt asked us to relocate to Warren Park this year (rather than our usual Hewitt Park spot). Although inclined to grumble about the last minute change, instead we treated it like a real emergency operation—coping with the unexpected. So, the Field Day Committee agreed on a layout at the new site, and the Saturday morning setup was smooth as ever. We used different antennas (a multiband vertical for the GOTA, and the new 40m vertical built by W5NCD using flagpole sections—sweet!) in different locations, a new arrangement of stations and generators, new logging computers, and—as a bonus—an HSMM-Mesh network providing video, telephone, chat, and log-screen viewing between the operating stations. We saw the typical influx of members and visitors, and the GOTA station was active with young folks all day and early evening. The weather was actually rather nice: although HOT (no surprise!) and sunny, there was a nice, steady breeze the whole 24 hours. |
